It's traditional in Chinese homes to put a sign with the character "fu" (good fortune) on or near the front door for New Years. Often the sign gets left up all year long, sometimes mounted upside down to represent good fortune spilling into one's home. This handsome brass plate is intended for that purpose, either on a front door or mounted on a large scale cabinet.
